Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned Manchester United supporters that they must be realistic over the club’s transfer targets as football looks to emerge from the financial turmoil caused by coronavirus.
United have been linked with several big names over the past year, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho still believed to be on their list of targets having failed to land him last summer.
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is another player who has been touted to move to Old Trafford, but Solskjaer appeared to suggest that the Red Devils may not be able to sign a household name given the financial issues at the club.
“There are going to be less and less transfers happening with all these changes,” the United boss said at his press conference on Tuesday ahead of this week’s clash with Crystal Palace.

“The lack of income, the finances has affected everyone. We have to be realistic and responsible in the way we do business on and off the pitch.
“There are improvements on the training ground, the stadium — we have to look at the whole picture. Where can we spend money? And how much is there? It’s just the real world now.”
A lack of new arrivals could see United turn to some of their academy graduates more often, with youngster Shola Shoretire having recently broken into the first-team picture until Solskjaer.
“You can look at it in different ways with a rebuild,” he continued.
“We have academy players we can give opportunities to. All clubs in the world are going through the same situation so it’s no different for us.”
