Soccer Aid boots out SAS: Who Dares Wins star Ant Middleton after BLM ‘scum’ row

It is unclear whether organisers acted at the request of other players or to protect the image of the event, which raises cash for Unicef. Middleton, 39, caused an outcry by retweeting a message that referred to BLM activists as “scum”. The ex-Special Forces soldier later apologised, saying he supported the movement. But he said he was compelled to condemn what he considered violent scenes in London in June.

Royal Navy chiefs had planned to drop him from his role as the Volunteer Cadet Corps’ chief cadet but changed their minds after protests.

But the star’s spokesman has confirmed he will not be running out in next month’s televised Soccer Aid match.

Among players in the England v World XI fixture are several black stars, including ex-Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt and ex-Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

Soccer Aid has raised £38million for Unicef since singer Robbie Williams founded it in 2006.

The body stressed the line-up for the England team “has not yet been confirmed”.

The Ministry of Defence said that  the issue between Middleton and the VCC was a “private matter”.

Middleton’s last tweet, on Friday, read: “We are all allowed a bad day. It’s when it rolls into 2, 3, 4 you must make a concerted effort to break that cycle knowing there is always another day on the horizon – A FRESH DAY!”

Middleton was also forced to apologise in March for a video he posted as the pandemic broke.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, he said: “COVID-19 doesn’t bother me. Why?!? I’m strong and able like the majority and it has no benefit or positive impact on my life. Am I going to let some disease dictate my life? Absolutely not. Get out there, don’t change!”

He later admitted he had misjudged the Covid crisis.
