UK-based esports organisation Semper Fortis Esports (SMPR) has announced its 2021 annual financial results, ending 31st January 2022.

The company accumulated £1.2m in losses, an increase compared to last year’s £626,173. The organisation’s annual revenue was £31,629 (~$38,200) with SMPR acknowledging it went through an ‘unprecedented period of market turbulence’.

SMPR’s financial report is made publicly available due to the company’s public listing on the Aquis Stock Exchange (AQSE), where it debuted in April 2021 raising approximately £2.55m (~$3m) during its first day of dealings.  As a result, the 2021 financial results have been recorded from April 26th 2021.

Earlier this year, SMPR entered the world of play-to-earn, after establishing a new division called SMPR Guild. However, in its financial report, the company states that it will pause any further investment in play-to-earn, for the near future. According to the report, SMPR’s decision was made because of the crypto crash that occurred in the second quarter of 2022.

Moreover, in an attempt to reduce its overheads, SMPR announced it will step away from some esports competitions and focus on its core Rocket League team. As seen on SMPR’s website, the organisation currently has competitive rosters in Hearthstone, Fortnite, FIFA, Rocket League, Axie Infinity, Super Smash Bros and Street Fighter.

The report did highlight some positive news for the company, largely involving its Rocket League team which has continued to perform well this year. This includes securing a top-four position in the RLCS Fall Major.

SMPR also secured its first-ever commercial partnership with trading card company Topps. In the report, it was revealed that Topp’s sponsorship amounted to £10,000. Specifically, the partnership saw Topps’ branding be featured on the organisation’s in-game Rocket League esports decal.

Throughout the year, SMPR also saw various senior members of staff stepping down, such as former CEO and Director Kevin Soltani, as well as former non-executive Director Nolan Bushnell.

In the report’s conclusion, SMPR noted that moving forward the company will continue to look at opportunities in and around the esports and the gaming sector.
