Smart Table lets diners call a waiter, view their bill and play games while they wait

Scottish start-up ePOS Hybrid has developed Smart Table technology on which diners can play games while they wait, call a waiter, view their bill or design a pizza.

The Edinburgh business’s glass-topped table with touchscreen technology aims to give customers more control over the eating out experience and making it more bearable for impatient, hungry children… and adults. That means no more struggling to catch the waiter’s eye or waiting an age for them to bring your bill.

Founder Bhas Kalangi said: “This could revolutionise the dining experience in bars and restaurants. Our customer self-checkouts and interactive Smart Tables are the only ones of their kind available in the UK.

“Having worked in a bar and seen the first-hand stresses caused by traditional, older point of sales systems, developing technology which allows hospitality businesses to work more efficiently is at the core of what we do. It’s extremely rewarding to see the positive impact our technology is having on hospitality businesses across the UK.”

The Smart Tables can interact with other ePOS Hybrid’s other products including Customer Self Checkouts, ePOS Terminals, Mobile Apps and Remote Kitchen Displays. They all integrate as a point of sale eco-system which is managed from a single dashboard.

It also aims to reduce small food businesses dependence on major food delivery apps such as Deliveroo and Just East by giving them an in-house solution. It has customers across Scotland and England, including takeaway chain Italian Express, Sakura Club, Masala Takeaway, Infinity Lounge Restaurant & Bar, Orinoco Latin Food and Bijou Bistro.

Last year, ePOS Hybrid made significant appointments in head of growth Andrew Gibbon and former RBS executive Alastair Hutt as a non-executive director.

Kalangi added: “It’s a really exciting time for the industry as there are so many market opportunities and trends we can work with to develop the best ePOS system for restaurants and bars.”
