A MUM-of-two has shared her own travel advice which helps her wash her family’s clothes while travelling – by putting them in a water barrel strapped to a car.
Australia travel writer Jennifer Enion explained that she decided to try something different after spending too much money at launderettes when travelling by caravan.

She also said that she spent “a few weeks bent awkwardly over laundry tubs in holiday parks” when she finally gave up.
She explained on Escape: “When you’re travelling for a year, whether solo or as a family like me, coughing up $5 every time you want to do a [washing] load quickly eats into the budget.”
Instead, she created her own washing machine – by using a large plastic tub tied to her caravan.
The mum bought a large 20l plastic tub with a screw top lid, costing around AUS$40 (£20) from a hardware store.

Jennifer said: “My husband strapped it to the drawbar of our caravan and I filled it with soiled clothing, water and detergent.
“We let the motion of driving over dirt roads and highways agitate our ‘washing machine’ as we travelled between campsites.”
They then emptied the dirty water in the “washing machine” when they arrived at the campsite, and let the clothing dry in the sun.
Jennifer added: “It’s one of the best camping hacks we’ve learnt and meant the few hundred dollars we saved could go toward more fun – and delicious – holiday endeavours.”
Travellers should also pack eucalyptus oil, as this can be used to remove stains and keep clothes smelling fresh when on holiday.
