A Eurovision contestant from Slovenia was left bloodied after part of the set fell on him during his performance – but ever the pro, he tried to carry on as if nothing happened.

Footage of comedian Klemen Slakonja began circulating on Twitter after a light fitting appeared to fall on him mid-way through his performance during the audition stages, causing him to fall off his chair.

Ever the trooper, Klemen got back up and carried on – before touching his hand to his forehead to mop up the ‘blood’ from the accident.

While some viewers – particularly those who don’t know Klemen is a comedian – were concerned, it appears the shocker of a moment was a hoax after all.

Klemen appeared to be ‘bleeding’ – despite the light fitting never making contact with his face, and he didn’t appear to hit it during his dramatic fall either.

People took to Twitter to discuss the incident, writing: ‘Is this a joke?’ and ‘So… staged or not?’

Klemen later appeared with a massive bandage on the side of his head – but despite the confusion over whether the accident was real or not, it was definitely the talking point of the night.

A fan who shared the video wrote: ‘Look, no matter how badly do the UK do in #Eurovision this year at least they’re not this guy who literally nearly died on the Slovenian selection show tonight.’

This year marks the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Rotterdam on 16 May.

While the UK’s entry is still to be announced, YouTube star NikkieTutorials has been confirmed to be the show’s online host for 2020.

The Dutch star, who boasts a following of more than 13 million on YouTube, said she was ‘beyond thrilled’ to be a part of the iconic show.

She wrote: ‘GOOD EVENING EUROPE, I am beyond honored and thrilled to announce that I’m the online host for #ESC2020.

‘I’ll appear on all three #Eurovision live shows AND host a special YouTube series with this year’s participating artists in ROTTERDAM!’

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Rotterdam on 16 May.
