Slipknot has shared its support for Metallica, as frontman James Hetfield enters rehab.

The heavy metal band and Metallica were set to take to Australia and New Zealand on a joint tour before it was announced dates would be postponed indefinitely.

Now reacting to the news, Slipknot has released a statement of their own as they scramble to find the next step.

‘To our Australian and New Zealand fans and family,’ the band said. ‘We only recently heard the news about the tour being postponed, and we are working as quickly as possible to determine next steps.

‘We will let everyone know as soon as we are able.’

They concluded: ‘Of course, our thoughts are with James and Metallica. We wish them nothing but the best. We hope to see you all very soon.’

Last week Metallica bandmates Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo posted on Twitter to confirm the shows would be called off as James ‘works on his recovery again’.

‘As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years,’ they shared.

‘He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again. We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit.

‘Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.

‘We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family.’

The band was due to play concerts in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland next month as part of their Worldwired tour.

Slipknot will next play on 11 October at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, with the tour down under originally scheduled to take place 17-31 October.
