Skunk Anansie’s Skin ‘irritated’ at Beyonce over Glastonbury claim but won’t ‘start beef’ with Stormzy

Skin was the first black woman to headline Glasto in 1999

Skunk Anansie frontwoman Skin has revealed that she was ‘more irritated’ by Beyonce calling herself the first black artist to headline Glastonbury Festival than Stormzy.

The grime star blew everyone away with his show-stopping performance on the Pyramid Stage at this year’s festival, bringing out a gospel choir, dance troupe and, um… Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

However, Stormzy’s claim to be the first black British artist to headline the Somerset arts festival rubbed Skin up the wrong way, with the star pointing out on social media that her band had headlined twenty years prior.

However, after the rapper publicly apologised, Skin revealed that there were no hard feelings between her and Stormzy.

‘I really like Stormzy and I think he does a lot of good,’ she told The Guardian.

‘I would never tear that guy down and I would never start a beef and take that moment away from him. But I had to stick up for myself.’

‘If I’m really honest, I was way more irritated when Beyoncé said she was the first black woman,’ she admitted.

After realising his mistake, Stormzy made the effort to rectify his claim and publicly apologised to the 52-year-old rock legend for misspeaking about the moment he described as ‘the greatest night of my entire life.’

‘Skin from the band Skunk Anansie was actually the first black artist to headline glasto she done it with her band in 1999 no disrespect intended and MASSIVE salute to you – my apologies,’ the 26-year-old wrote, impressing Skin as he also contacted her privately.

‘He DM’d me personally and it was a lovely message,’ she said. ‘We had a little conversation.

‘The guy has so much class. We’re all proud of the fact he’s a black man, doing the black man things.’
