SIR Alex Ferguson raised £405,000 for the NHS after throwing a star- studded charity bash.

The ex-Manchester United boss, 77, handed over the cash as a thank you for the brain op that saved his life last year.

The do, hosted by actor James Nesbitt at a plush Manchester hotel on Friday, was a sell-out with hundreds of people paying to have dinner alongside Fergie and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

A source said: “Alex was in great form all night and had guests in stitches with his stories.

“It raised a lot of money but Alex was determined that all of it should go to the NHS.

“He’s always been a great supporter of them and that’s become even more the case since his health issues.” The cash included £5,000 from a punter who paid for a picture with The Proclaimers, who performed.

Last May Sir Alex was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after a seizure at his home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

He was placed in an induced coma and spent four days in intensive care.

The Scot won 38 trophies in a glittering 26 years at Old Trafford before retiring in 2013.
