Sinitta encouraged Simon Cowell to buy his own football club

Sinitta once tried to convince Simon Cowell to buy his own football club, and we have so many questions.

The So Macho singer dated the X Factor boss way back in the 1980s and, despite things not working out, they have remained close pals ever since.

So close, in fact, that the 56-year-old tried to encourage her friend to splash out on a sports team, following on in Elton John’s footsteps.

Because, why not?

In a chat with Metro.co.uk to promote Hotels.com’s female football fans campaign, the Chelsea supporter told us: ‘You know, that’s the ultimate thing, isn’t it? You’d have your little box seat, and he loves football.

‘I thought it would be cool, but he said it’s not a nice job, it’s a really tough job, you can’t just own a team…

‘Rod Stewart used to have his team, Elton had his, so I thought Simon should own a team. But he said it’s a lot of money, and it’s a lot of hard work, and it’s not what you think.

‘He said it’s not like owning a racehorse…

‘I said, you know it’s better because you get loads of them and they’re all hot guys… But never mind.’

Sinitta is a huge football fan, and we can only guess she would’ve tipped herself for manager of whatever club Simon wanted to buy.

If she can tear herself away from the dressing room, that is…

‘I’m a Chelsea girl but actually I’m a bit of a sympathiser with a few because I also like Hull City,’ she continued.

‘I dated a guy from Hull who got me all into that.

‘I have been into the Hull City dressing room, I must admit.

‘Tom Huddlestone, I sat in his spot and stroked his shirt, had a little look around.’

Tom has since left the club, so we’re hoping he got his kit washed beforehand…

Sinitta has joined the likes of Love Island’s Gabby Allen, Towie’s Courtney Green and Tallia Storm for Hotels.com’s female football fans campaign, revealing her passion for the game.

‘I grew up with footballers. I grew up with John Fashanu and Ian Wright and Vinnie Jones all back in the day, we’d all go to the same clubs together,’ she explained.

‘I was even an early WAG, I used to date Fash. I’ve always known footballers, but I wasn’t a big follower of the game. I’d read back pages because it’s your buddies, so I knew them all.

‘Later on, just through dating men. I would find myself on a Saturday afternoon on a sofa watching football and actually really enjoying it.

‘I think football is much friendlier now than it used to be in the olden days. When Fash used to make me come to Wimbledon to watch him play, there would be people singing really horrible songs, it felt slightly aggressive and I felt like an endangered species.

‘Whereas now it’s more like American sports, where the whole family goes and you feel like you can take a big snack and just have a family afternoon out.’

Sinitta, Gabby Allen, Courtney Green and Tallia Storm revealed their secret hidden passion for the beautiful game, for Hotels.com – Official Travel Partner of the UEFA Champions League.
