Simon Gregson: Coronation Street's Steve McDonald, 45, contracts coronavirus

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson, 45, has taken to Twitter to tell fans he has contracted the coronavirus. In view of his 246,000 followers, he said he is “starting to feel better” after suffering from the disease.

Earlier today, he tweeted: “1st day out of bed today starting to feel a little better after contracting the virus.

“My main symptom was gastric and still is b****y awful but lucky to not have respiratory. Stay safe everyone x.”

The Steve McDonald star followed up his post, writing: “1.506.936 cases of covid 19 confirmed I’m pretty sure doctors around the world are pretty up to speed on the symptoms of the virus for anyone unsure if your doctors right or wrong.”

The actor was then asked if he had been tested for the disease, to which he replied: “No test available was diagnosed via symptoms.”

A second Twitter user also queried the star, writing: “Would be interesting to know if gastric is a confirmed cause.”

He replied: “According to the doctor diarrhoea is the new most common symptom.”

The main symptoms of the disease include a persistent cough, a fever and/or a shortness of breath.

Recent studies have claimed digestive issues, such as diarrhoea, could also be a symptom.

However,  the World Health Organisation have stated that very few people will report diarrhoea, nausea or a runny nose.

After tweeting about his illness, many of the star’s fans and co-stars rushed to his post to send their well wishes.

Connor McIntyre wrote: “Glad to hear you’re on the other side of this my friend…. nice n easy does it.”

A second commented: “Get well soon, I’m the same, take care!”
