Simon Cowell signs up 'The Hitman' Pete Waterman to help save The X Factor

SIMON Cowell has signed up Pete Waterman to help save The X Factor.

The Hitman, who helped launch the chart careers of Kylie Minogue and Steps, is being put in charge of song choices for the acts.

In the past, many contestants have been given the chop by viewers simply because the judges – including Cowell – have picked the wrong songs for them to perform.

Waterman has a solid history of picking hits for acts including Rick Astley and Donna Summer and will now take over this role.

Pete is no stranger to TV, having presented The Hitman And Her in the early 90s and been one of the judges on Pop Idol.

He will work with the acts taking part in Celebrity X Factor and also X Factor All Stars this autumn to make sure they pick the right song to impress the panel.

A source said: “Pete is the best in the business when it comes to choosing the right song for the right singer. He has an amazing musical brain. He will make a huge difference.”
