Simon Cowell 'honoured' as he walks X Factor star Lucy Spraggan down the aisle

Simon Cowell opened up on his “special bond” with former X Factor star Lucy Spraggan after he gave her away at her recent wedding. The music mogul walked the singer/songwriter down the aisle as she married photographer Emilia Smith at Saltmarshe Hall in East Yorkshire.

The Britain’s Got Talent creator and judge admitted he felt “honoured” to play such a significant part in proceedings after the two formed a friendship years after her appearance on the TV talent show. They bonded after Lucy forgave him for the lack of support she received when she was forced to withdraw from the programme back in 2012.

“Being asked to walk her down the aisle made me realise the significance and importance of that role and throughout the day, I was thinking even though it’s been a relatively short time, we do feel like family, and we share a very special bond,” he said of the occasion.

Meanwhile, Lucy admitted there were tears from both parties. “Simon and I were standing outside the door and my song started playing. I was already crying, and Simon definitely had a tear in his eye.

“I was linking arms with him but then I realised I was holding on to his arm. He kept saying, ‘You’re OK, you’re all right.’ Then when Emilia walked in with her dad I just sobbed,” she revealed as they both spoke to Hello magazine.

Lucy shared one of the images from the magazine shoot with her 205,000 Instagram followers. In it, Simon can be seen standing in the background clapping with pride.

She captioned the post “Mrs & Mrs Spraggan-Smith 14.6.24.” Both women looked stunning in the image as they held hands while confetti showered around them.

Lucy opted for a beautiful white King & Allen suit that featured wide-leg trousers, a fitted waistcoat, and a cropped blazer. Meanwhile, Emilia rocked a stunning strapless white gown by the Australian label Chosen by Kyha. The dress featured detachable sleeves and a long veil.

Lucy had revealed in April that Simon would be undertaking the key role at her nuptials. Ironically their paths didn’t cross during her 2012 stint on The X Factor.

At the time, she was forced to pull out of the show after being attacked by a hotel porter. She told Christine Lampard during an appearance on Lorraine last year that Simon reached out to her after she wrote a memoir detailing her traumatic experience.

“Someone from Simon’s entourage rang me up and said, ‘Do you mind if Simon calls you?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I am going to give him a piece of my mind,'” the Sober singer told the presenter.

However, she said the music mogul apologised straight away, claiming “he was the first person to apologise” to her.

Reflecting on their conversation, Lucy added: “I thought I was going to go into this super angry.”

“He called me and he said, ‘Sorry I’ve been thinking about you and I just want to apologise.’ Honestly, that made things so much better for me.”
