Shkodran Mustafi set for exit door as Unai Emery plans summer clearout at Arsenal

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI will be let go by Arsenal as they prepare for a summer clearout, according to reports.

The Mail believe the German defender is up for sale as boss Unai Emery tries to raise funds for the transfer market.

Arsenal have very little available cash to spend this summer – with some reports suggesting Emery will have just £30million to make the signings he wants.

But it is understood the Spaniard has been told he can reinvest the majority of money raised through selling players.

And it is Mustafi who is one of those likely to be put in the shop window.

The centre-back, 27, joined the Gunners from Valencia in 2016 for a hefty fee of £34.85m and has been inconsistent throughout his time in North London.

His defensive frailties were exposed once again on Sunday as Arsenal slipped to a shock home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Mustafi got himself in a twist and failed to deal with a clearance, allowing Wilfried Zaha to nip in and slot past Bernd Leno.

And that will not help Arsenal’s cause as they try and offload him, even for a cut of the price they paid for him three years ago.

Nobody has tried to buy the 2014 World Cup winner – who came through the academy at Everton and is contracted to Arsenal until 2021 – over the last two summers and his performances this season are unlikely to attract many new bidders.

He has made 35 appearances in all competitions but has kept just eight clean sheets as Arsenal’s defensive problems continue.

The report also says that £350,000-a-week Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan – who is on £180,000 per week – are both at risk of being sold.

That would help to significantly reduce the wage bill at the Emirates, as will the confirmed departures of Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech.

Danny Welbeck, Mohamed Elneny, Carl Jenkinson, Calum Chambers and David Ospina are all thought to be up for sale as well this summer.
