Shia LaBeouf was told he 'had PTSD' from his years working as a child star

Shia LaBeouf has admitted he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The 33-year-old Transformers star spoke about the condition on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast on Tuesday – and says it developed from his time as a child actor in Hollywood.

‘I just thought I was an alcoholic,’ admitted LaBeouf during the interview.

Shia’s revelation came during a stint in court-ordered rehab, in the wake of a 2017 altercation with an undercover police officer in Savannah, Georgia.

‘It was the first time I’d been told I had PSTD,’ said the Disturbia star on the podcast.

‘I just thought I was an alcoholic, like, a true-blue drunk and I needed to deal with that,’ he continued.

‘I knew it was an issue but didn’t know there was this extra whole other thing that was hindering my ability to have any peace in my life and my ability to deal with people.’

Shia’s troubling times as a child actor in Hollywood are chronicled in his yet-to-be-released autobiographical film, Honey Boy.

The film -which was written by and stars LaBeouf- is about Shia’s relationship with his father and the strain that developed when the actor’s family became dependent on money from his acting career.

‘In a very simple way, to me, having money meant having a family,’ he revealed.

‘The more money I had, the more I could have my family around. That’s just how I equated it.’
