Sherif Lanre: ‘Zero tolerance!’ Love Island star Wes Nelson addresses his mystery exit

Now, former Love Island star Wes Nelson, 21, has addressed why he believes 2019 contestant Sherif Lane, 20, may have been kicked off. The ex finalist was quizzed about Sherif’s mystery exit by Jamie Theakston, 48, and Amanda Holden, 48, on their Heart Radio Breakfast show this morning. Sharing his thoughts, he said: “My best guest would be fighting or arguing with the producers and getting aggressive. That’s zero tolerance if you get aggressive.” Following Sherif’s departure from the show, many viewers speculated he may have been caught sneaking a phone into the villa, but Wes doesn’t believe this could have been possible.

He added: “No, your phone is locked away. They search your bag twice… when you’re there and when you’re in lockdown.

“They do spot checks all the time.”

When quizzed further about why he thinks producers have not yet revealed the reason behind Sherif’s exit, he said: “It’s the same with anything, I think it’s just privacy.

“Last year there was Niall [Aslam] who went home after the first week but they never revealed that, he did.”

News of Sherif’s departure from Love Island emerged yesterday, with a Love Island spokesperson telling Express.co.uk: “After breaking the villa rules, Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.”

Sherif Lanre, 20, said: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20-year-old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.”

Reasons for Sherif’s exit are still unknown, however Wes spoke out on the rules of the show.

The Dancing On Ice finalist said: “There are a lot of rules… one is you can’t talk about previous series.

“You can’t pleasure yourself, there’s quite a few, just mainly common sense… racism and things like that.”

“They’re trying to keep the broadest audience,” he added.

Wes added contestants will get a warning about controversial things such as putting on an accent which could cause offence.

He said: “You get warnings if you do something controversial like an accent… they’ll just say, ‘Don’t do it again.’”

“I got some branded stuff taken off me but nothing really strict,” he added.

Wes appeared on the show last year and made it the final with his now ex-girlfriend Megan Hanson-Barton, 24.

Giving his say on this year’s show, he said the contestants are lacking banter.

Wes went on to say he is a fan of Amy Hart, 26, describing her as “someone you’d take home to your mum”.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.

The Heart Radio Breakfast show with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden airs weekdays from 6.30am.
