‘She was absolutely lovely’: Belfast restaurant staff sing Taylor Swift’s praises after surprise visit

Starstruck waiting staff who served Taylor Swift in Belfast this weekend have sung the star’s praises – as well as dishing on what she had for dinner.

The US singer was spotted dining at Shu restaurant in South Belfast with her boyfriend, English actor Joe Alwyn, on Friday, shortly before visiting the Tipsy Bird bar in the city centre.

The “Wildest Dreams” artist took selfies with the waiting staff at both venues, who told i she was “absolutely lovely” and “couldn’t be more accommodating”.

Shu, crowned the best restaurant in Northern Ireland three times, served the “Blank Space” singer a Korean chicken starter and steak for the main course.

Swift “stayed quite late and enjoyed some of our cocktails,” Alan Reid, the owner of Shu restaurant told i.

“She was absolutely lovely, and couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating,” he added.

Later on, Swift joined revellers in Belfast city centre, dancing along to 22-year-old Tiernán Heffron’s performance.

“She came up to me in the middle of it with a big smile and said: ‘You’re so good – how can I follow you?’” Mr Heffron told BBC News.

“I told her my name and that I worked in a special needs school but I had been working hard on my music and she asked me for a selfie.

“She tipped me for playing, told me she enjoyed my music and said: ‘You deserve this’.”

Swift is believed to be visiting Alwyn, who is wrapping up filming on the Hulu/BBC Three adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Conversations with Friends.

Swift is no stranger to acts of generosity. Last year, she funded Portuguese student Vitoria Mario’s degree when she read i‘s report the 18-year-old was ineligible for a student loan.

Donating £23,000 to Ms Mario’s GoFundMe campaign, the singer wrote: “I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality… good luck with everything you do!”
