Shakespeare fans can stay in Juliet’s real-life house in Verona this Valentine’s Day

Fans of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet will soon be able to stay in Juliet’s real-life house for the first time, as Airbnb announced it will list the home in Verona, Italy for a one-night stay on Valentine’s Day.

Casa di Giulietta, a thirteenth century townhouse and now a landmark and museum in the town, will be turned into a home for the first time since the 1930s. The home, which receives thousands of love letters from people across the world every year, will welcome a winner and their guest who will spend a night in the fabled home with its iconic balcony.

The winners will also be waited on by a personal butler and enjoy a candlelit dinner in the romantic dining room prepared by two-Michelin Star chef Giancarlo Perbellini.

The guests can read Juliet’s love letters before retiring to Juliet’s bedroom which features “Letto di Giulietta”, the original bed used in Zeffirelli’s classic 1960s version of Romeo and Juliet.

Federico Sboarina, Mayor of Verona Municipality, said: “Juliet’s House is the most important museum in the City of Verona, attracting millions of visitors every year. Partnering with Airbnb brings the widely known Shakespearian story of Romeo and Juliet to life in a way never offered before. We are excited to promote our cultural heritage, share traditions that were previously safeguarded, and bring international visibility to the City of Verona.”
