Seven Scottish reality TV stars we all remember and love

The nation has been patiently waiting for the return of Love Island tonight.

But before the latest set of islanders enter Casa Amor, we thought we’d take a look back at our favourite Scottish reality TV stars .

As reported, Scot Anton Danyluk, is preparing to get up close and personal with his fellow Love Island stars as the hit show kicks off on ITV2.

With his wandering eye and self-confessed smooth patter, Anton is flying the flag as the first Scottish guy on the show.

However, he’s not the first Scot to ever apply and appear on a reality show – we’ve had David Sneddon and Darius Danesh light up the small screen before him.

Who else do you remember? Here’s seven reality TV stars we all loved back in the day.

Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle says she still loves a bargain despite being minted

The Blackburn native first stormed our TV screens 10 years ago, in 2009, on Britain’s Got Talent.

She blew the public and judges away with her incredible rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

Scotland fell in the love with the 58-year-old and she became an overnight global success. Susan appeared in Sunday night’s live final to perform with Michael Ball, 10 years on from her first performance.

Mikey Hughes

Mikey was on season 9 of Big Brother and was popular from the very beginning.

When Mikey was 23 he lost his sight whilst undergoing an operation and has been blind ever since. He didn’t face the public vote once throughout his entire stay in the House. He finished the series in second place with 48.7% of the public vote, leaving the Big Brother house on day 93.

He ran as an independent in the 2009 Glasgow North East by-election receiving 54 votes.

Laura Anderson

Love Island star Laura Anderson

The Love Island star from last year won over the nation as she battled to find love in the villa. Dumped twice, backstabbed by so-called friends and mocked because of her age, Laura’s Love Island journey was the most turbulent of all the contestants.

The Scot, from Stirling, ended up being runner-up behind winners Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham.

She has since gone on to find some fame outside the villa, and is set to launch a hair extension and nail range.

David Sneddon

The Paisley born singer-songwriter appeared in Fame Academy in 2002, winning the series. He then went on to have several hit singles and an album which reached number 5 in the UK Album Chart in 2003.

He has since moved onto songwriting and producing and has worked with a string of top artists, including Lana Del Ray.

Darius Danesh

Darius Campbell Danesh rose to fame as a Pop Idol finalist

Darius made a big impact with viewers when he appeared on Popstars in 2001 singing Britney Spears’s Hit Me Baby One More Time. Despite the rendition, he wasn’t successful.

And he returned for another shot at pop stardom, finishing third in Pop Idol behind Gareth Gates and Will Young in 2002.

The Glasgow-born singer did eventually win a reality show after starring in Popstar to Operastar in 2010.

He has since launched a musical theatre career performing on London’s west end.

Michelle McManus

Michelle won the second and final season of Pop Stars in 2003, and has been entertaining us ever since.  Her hit song All This Time propelled her to stardom and helped launch her music and TV career.

The Glaswegian , who was brought up in Baillieston, was only ever in the bottom three of the show once and was a fan favourite. Since the show she has taken up presenting and even appeared as a panelist on Loose Woman last year.

Cameron Stout

Cameron Stout, Big Brother 2004 winner back in his home town of Stromness in Orkney

Another Big Brother contestant during its fourth year. The Orkney native won the series receiving 57.5 per cent of the public vote.

Stout later became a spokesman for the Hall of Clestrain in the BBC television series Restoration, and has also co-presented the BBC Scotland series Teen Commandments in 2004 with Edith Bowman.

He has appeared in pantomime in Aberdeen and Glasgow and is involved with various charitable events.
