Sergio Romero has been left out of Manchester United’s Premier League squad after already being dropped from their Champions League roster – but wasn’t even told about it by the club.

Romero has served as a loyal backup to David de Gea during a five-year spell at Old Trafford but he has been pushed further down the pecking order after Dean Henderson returned to the club after his loan at Sheffield United.

The Argentina goalkeeper was frustrated at not being allowed to leave the club in the summer transfer window but his misery has been compounded after United left him out of European and domestic squads.

That means he is only eligible to play one match before the January transfer window – the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Everton.

Even that seems unlikely, with Henderson likely to stand in for De Gea in cup competitions and Romero faces months on the sidelines.

Astonishingly, he only found out about being left out of United’s squads on social media, according to ESPN.

Having been priced out of a move this summer, this stands to be a frustrating couple of months for the 33-year-old goalkeeper.

His wife, didn’t hold back when a summer move to Everton fell through.

‘Sergio Romero worked hard for this club,’ wrote Eliana Guercio.

‘Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.

‘He helped the team reach 4 finals/ semifinals and then he was left on the bench only to lose them all.

‘It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go.

‘RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!!’
