Sergio Romero 'begs' Man Utd to let him to leave after Everton transfer collapse

Sergio Romero has begged with Manchester United chiefs to allow him to leave the club after his move to Everton collapsed.

The Argentine has been hellbent on departing Old Trafford after being made third-choice goalkeeper.

Dean Henderson’s return from loan at Sheffield United, as well as David de Gea’s continuance in goal, has meant Romero has dropped down the pecking order.

He is also unhappy with the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer treated him last season.

After helping United get to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League, he was dropped in favour for De Gea.

In all three matches, the Red Devils lost and were knocked out.

Sergio Romero is keen on leaving United

And Romero believes he was wrongly treated after helping the club get to that level, just to be switched out.

Everton were potential suitors as they looked for competition between the sticks.

Jordan Pickford’s form has decreased over the year, while he has also started this season a bit shaky.

Carlo Ancelotti believes a genuine competitor for his spot in the first-team would be healthy for the squad.

But a transfer could not be agreed, despite Romero and his wife pushing for the move.

Now he has demanded that he be allowed to terminate his contract – which expires next summer.

Romero is not happy about being third-choice

United would have to pay up £1.5m to do so, but according to The Sun, Romero is so keen on leaving he would be happy to relinquish that amount.

Major League Soccer clubs are interested in the 33-year-old while he is only interested in getting some first-team football under his belt.

Romero was not even in Argentina’s squad for their 2-1 win over Bolivia on Tuesday night and he is desperate to wrestle his way back into the national set-up.

The Sun further report that him and his reps are in talks with United over a solution.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils would be willing to axe one of their players for nothing.

If that is the case, Romero will have to see out the rest of his contract while he would be able to agree a pre-contract with clubs from January.
