I GET loads of emails from readers asking how to save money – but one seemed especially apt for Remembrance Sunday.
Tiffany Hughes, from Portsmouth, wrote asking: “My boyfriend is in the military and was deployed for the first time a month ago. I want to send him a care package that’s not too expensive but will still be nice and also won’t go over the 2kg weight limit. Help!”

I turned to our Facebook community of savvy Sun Savers, who came up with these great suggestions.
Elaine Wilson: Send a letter pack so he can write to you. Add pens and a photo album too. Memories of home helped my nephew on his deployment.
My tip: A photo album is a lovely idea. Grab one at Wilko for £5.
Louise Stillwell: Things to keep them entertained are great: Jigsaws, puzzle books, cards, magnets, colouring books with pencils, even Lego.
My tip: You can’t go wrong with a pack of cards. Pick up a pack for £1 at The Works.

Sara Heinonen: Send simple things he may not be able to get on deployment, like his favourite chocolate or sweets.
My tip: Be careful with the weight limit. If you are going to send more than one parcel, send a different treat in each package, rather than all at once. If you are after a choccy treat, Cadbury Dairy Milk Giant Buttons are just £1 at Tesco, down from the usual £1.50. Toiletries are good to send too, such as deodorant and soap. But do check the restrictions when it comes to sending liquids and aerosol cans. You don’t want your package to be refused. Wilko has three for two on travel-size minis, from just 50p.
Poppy Appeal: There is still time to get a poppy. If you sign up to topcashback.co.uk and shop on the Royal British Legion’s website (britishlegion.org.uk), you can earn up to 10.5 per cent cashback on your purchase, which you could donate to charity.
