‘Self-aware’ Piers Morgan trolls himself with Meghan Markle jab amid Ashes embarrassment

Piers Morgan is clearly in a tizz over the embarrassing early Ashes collapse from England and he’s looking for someone to blame.

Clearly also with a sense of humour about his near-constant ranting about the Duchess of Sussex, the former Good Morning Britain presenter decided to use the sporting upset to troll himself.

Piers was left reeling as England found themselves in all kinds of trouble at 11-3 just six overs into the first day of the five-match series, with Rory Burns dismissed from the very first ball of the match from Mitchell Starc, before David Malan and Joe Root both fell shortly after.

Adding to England’s woes Australia captain Pat Cummins then dismissed Ben Stokes in his first Test match following his four-month break from cricket, as well as the resolute Haseeb Hameed to leave the visitors reeling on 60-5.

That was enough to have every English cricket fan feeling nervous, but then right as Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler led the England fightback, putting on 52 for the sixth wicket, Buttler was caught by Australia wicket-keeper Alex Carey off the bowling of Cummins for 39 to start another collapse.

And, according to Piers, there is but one person to blame.

He tweeted in jest (or not, potentially not) alongside a tweet from the England Cricket account proclaiming ‘we are all out for 147 in the first innings’: ‘It’s Meghan Markle’s fault.

‘Not quite sure why yet, but I’ll think of a reason.’

Some of the former tabloid editor’s followers found his joke in bad taste, however others saw the lighter side of his comment, with one writing: ‘Making the joke before anyone else does, smart.’

Another mocked: ‘Is this…self-awareness??’

Piers has hardly minced his words when it comes to the Duchess, who he recently branded a ‘desperate reality star’ following her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Comparing Meghan to the Kardashian family, the former GMB anchor wrote: ‘Last night’s Ellen debacle exposed Meghan Markle’s desire to be a jobbing C-list reality TV celebrity, not a jobbing A-list royal.

‘But even a Kardashian would have deemed that street vendor stunt beneath them and brand-damaging. That’s how puerile and embarrassing it was.’

It’s his latest rant in a long line directed at Meghan, after, earlier this year, Piers quit Good Morning Britain after more than 41,000 complaints were made to Ofcom about remarks he made concerning the Duchess’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, when she discussed her mental health and previously suffering from suicidal thoughts.

After Meghan made a formal complaint to Ofcom, Piers was later cleared by the watchdog, after it concluded that he did not breach the broadcasting code.

The final result of the Ashes is yet to be seen.
