Selena Gomez says she was working on her new album Rare up until the last minute

Selena Gomez was still writing for her new album Rare until the last minute.

The 27-year-old singer finally feels ready to share her follow-up to 2015’s Revival but admitted that she was still working on it right up until it was ready for release.

‘This is four years of my life, and I think I’m completely okay with releasing it,’ she explained during a talk with Zane Lowe for his New Music Daily show on Apple Music’s Beats 1.

Selena went on: ‘But there had always been something that was preventing me or scaring me from doing it, and I’m so glad that I’ve followed that gut instinct, because it’s so crazy that every single moment counts, down to literally Lose You to Love Me and Look at Her Now is out, but we were still, the last day, writing music that … the song I personally think is going to be one of our biggest as well.’

Selena worked with co-writers Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels on the album and said she has found a group of people that inspire and challenge her.

She said: ‘I think I just found my group, and I think I’m getting better and better, but I only know that that means it’s because of the people I’m surrounded by that inspire me, that challenge me.

Culmination: 'This is four years of my life, and I think I'm completely okay with releasing it,' she explained during a talk with Zane Lowe for his New Music Daily show on Apple Music's Beats 1

‘I think the past few years, or, hell, decade if you want, I think I was really kind of hurting, and I think that prevented me from doing a lot more, creatively or even content-wise, of what I wanted to say.

With the release of the full album Friday, she also dropped a music video for the title track. She serves fairy goddess vibes in the visual accompaniment, set in a colorful dream-like forest.

This comes after claims most of her songs cast a negative light on her ex Justin Bieber with lyrics like, ‘If I give you every piece of me, I know that you could drop it.’

The video starts with quick-cut shots of the 27-year-old’s silhouette, outlined by a multi-colored halo in a dark forest.

She then wakes up in the grass, wearing a flowy beige halterneck dress, surrounded by colorful glowing flowers.

The song lives up to Gomez’s theme of vulnerability, self love and mental health, all of which are also presented in the rest of the album.

She recently told Spotify of the title Rare: ‘I just felt like that was me if that makes sense. Obviously, I’ve had a lot of self esteem issues in the past.

‘I still struggle with confidence and you know, it’s going to be something that I’m always working on. Rare made me feel incredible. That name was so important to me the moment I heard it.’

Previously release singles Lose You To Love Me and Look at Her Now have apparently delved into her breakup with Justin Bieber.
