Second Brexit referendum could see MPs KILLED, government insiders fear

A SECOND Brexit referendum could see MPs KILLED, the government fears.

Westminster insiders believe that Brits would be so angry it could lead to MPs being “lynched” on the streets.

TERRIFIED WESTMINSTER

Boris Johnson’s team are said to be extremely concerned that if we do not leave the EU on October 31 violence could erupt on the streets of Britain.

One Downing Street source told the FT: “MPs wouldn’t be able to leave a secure zone in SW1, they would be lynched.

“I think people would get killed.”

The fears from No10 come as the PM weighs up three potential Brexit options – with the second referendum being his least preferred.

His most favoured is a deal with Brussels – with one minister claiming Boris was “desperate” to get one done.

Not only would it be the best economic outcome, but it would also boost the Tories’ chances of winning an election. The second option would be to crash out of the bloc without a deal.

COMMONS CLASH

But post-Brexit fears from Westminster come after ugly scenes erupted in the Commons last week.

Furious Remainer MPs claimed they have been subject to death threats due to the use of Mr Johnson’s language regarding Brexit.

The PM was rebuked for his constant use of the term “surrender bill” to describe the Brexit-blocking Benn Act, passed through the Commons last month.

Labour MP Paula Sheriff later clashed with Mr Johnson after she suggested that his “offensive and dangerous language” could lead to attacks on politicians and pointed to a plaque of Jo Cox.

The PM described the comment as “humbug” – causing widespread outrage – but later apologised.

Mrs Cox, Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was brutally murdered by far-right extremist Thomas Mair as she attended in a constituency meeting in Birstall, West Yorkshire, in 2016.

BORIS’ BREXIT BLUEPRINT

Mr Johnson has entered a crucial period of his tenure at No10 – with less than 30 days until Brexit.

Boris told The Sun today he has just ten days to crack a deal with Brussels and unveiled his “final offer”.

The PM will send a blueprint for a new agreement to EU chiefs tomorrow in a pivotal moment for negotiations.

Sources say it would involve two soft borders until 2025, one in the Irish Sea and one between Ulster and Ireland.

Downing Street warned EU chiefs if they do not “engage” with Boris’s new legal text he will end all talks and prepare for No Deal instead.

In an exclusive interview on the eve of his first Tory Conference speech as leader, Boris revealed the tight ten-day timetable he faces.

He must broker a deal by October 11 — the day the agenda will be set for the crunch EU summit starting on October 17.

But the PM insisted: “Ten days should be enough. If there’s a deal to be done, it could be done in that time. Genuinely. If there isn’t, then we’ll know. That’s the truth.”

Mr Johnson’s long-awaited “alternative arrangements” blueprint to replace the controversial Irish backstop is based around a new system of stand-off customs checks away from the border.
