Sean Connery's intense 40-year love affair with wife Micheline Roquebrune

Scottish acting legend Sean Connery has passed away aged 90, leaving behind his beloved wife of 40 years Micheline Roquebrune.

The 007 star was no stranger to admitting his adoration for his other half throughout their marriage and once hailed her ‘the love of his life’.

The James Bond actor and his French native beau had an intense and passionate relationship that began when they met in 1970 at a golf tournament in Morocco.

Sir Sean had just split with his first wife, actress Diane Cilento, whom he was married to for 11 years.

It was love at first sight for the pair and they reportedly romped within 24 hours of meeting.

The actor went on to embark on a deeply passionate romantic journey with the French artist, whom he later wed in 1975.

Describing their first romantic tryst in France’s Gala magazine in 1972, Micheline wrote: ”The key is in the door. He’s reading a newspaper, lying down, naked. In one step, I jump on the bed, undo my leather belt and pretend to whip him with it while dancing.

”He grabs hold of me and kisses me passionately. “

She added: ”The four days that follow, we continue to play golf like strangers then we meet to make love like crazy people. The reality is even better than the fantasy. No man has ever had this effect on me.”

Micheline went on to recount how he was the man of her dreams when the pair first met.

She said: ”For the whole world, he’s a huge star, but for me, he is, above all, the man of my dreams.”

Recalling their first encounter, Micheline – who had two husbands prior to Sean – told The Sun in 2011 that she did not know he was an A-list actor.

Micheline told how she noticed Sean’s “fine physique” but “didn’t know who he was or anything about him.”

Proving she knew he was special, she added: “Then I dreamed I saw this man. I was in his arms. And I thought ‘At last, peace. The next day I went back to the tournament and that was that!”

At the start of their relationship the couple could not speak the same language.

Micheline, who speaks fluent French and Spanish and understands Arabic, said that it was not an issue for the love birds as she cheekily shared with the publication: “Oh we had no problem communicating — body language!”

Sean and Micheline struggled to see one another during the early stages of their romance since they were living in different places.

Sean told: “In the early days it was difficult for us to see each other. She was still living in North Africa with her children”.

But that did not stop the lovebirds and they eventually started a life together in the Bahamas.

Revealing that their love was solid, the actor said of his wife: “Micheline is an amazing woman. She is the love of my life.”

Today, the James Bond actor’s family revealed that he had been ‘ill for some time’ before he died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas surrounded by loved ones.

His son Jason, from Connery’s previous marriage, paid tribute to his dad as he told the BBC his death was a ‘sad loss for a people around the world.’

“We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time,” he added.
