Scrubs actor Sam Lloyd’s cause of death revealed as wife shares heartbreaking statement

Sam Lloyd’s wife Vanessa has revealed he died as a result of cancer complications.

The Scrubs actor passed away on 30 April, aged 56, more than a year after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

And the late star’s wife, Vanessa, has shared a heartbreaking statement, explaining his death hasn’t sunk in yet.

In a statement, shared with Metro.co.uk, she said: ‘Sam passed away peacefully at 10:30 on April 30th, 2020 as a result of complications from lung cancer. 

‘Our family is devastated. It doesn’t feel real. It never will. It just feels like he will walk through the door.

‘The overwhelming outpouring of love and sharing your stories about working with or knowing Sam keeps his memory alive and our hearts strong.

‘Sam loved his work. I want to continue his legacy, and hope to share some of the beautiful songs he was working on for his musical and our son, Weston.’

News of Sam’s death emerged on Friday, with his agent confirming the tragic news.

The sitcom star was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the beginning of last year – shortly after his first child was born.

He fell into a coma for nearly two months after multiple brain surgeries, when his targeted therapy drug lost its effectiveness. 

On a GoFundMe for Sam, his friend Tim Hobert wrote: ‘Our dear sweet Sammy has passed away.

‘On April 30th at a respiratory facility in Los Angeles with his beautiful wife, Vanessa, at his side and his sister, Laurel, FaceTiming from New Hampshire, Samuel Lloyd Jr. left this earth and was reunited with his dad (Samuel Lloyd Sr.), his mom (Marianna McGuffin), and his brother (Jackson Lloyd). 

‘Sam’s fight began on January 17, 2019 when he was diagnosed with lung cancer that metastasised to his brain, liver, spine, and jaw. Things did not look good. After an outpouring of love from Sam’s friends and people from all over the world, Sam was put on a new targeted therapy drug and had an amazing resurgence. 

‘For 13 months Sam lived life to the fullest, treasuring every moment. He saw his son, Weston, turn 1, he was able to hold his mom’s hand as she took her last breath, and as Sam always loved to say, “he made music along the way.”’

Sam’s Scrubs co-stars including Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke shared their tributes to the actor on social media, saying ‘he could not have been a kinder man’. 

He was best known for playing lawyer Ted Buckland in the medical comedy, and he briefly reprised the role in Cougar Town. 

As well as stints on the big screen, he also starred in Seinfeld and Desperate Housewives.
