Scott Mills and Chris Stark are taking over Danny Baker’s BBC Radio 5 Live slot following the star’s sacking in May.

The Radio 1 stars have been confirmed to take over the Saturday morning show from 9am to 11am on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Scott, 45, said: ‘I’m so delighted to be joining BBC Radio 5 live! I love my Radio 1 show and covering for Claudia on Radio 2 which I’ll still be doing. But I’m now ready to bring a whole different show to 5 live.

‘Expect lots of laughs and of course Chris Stark. Just what you want on a Saturday morning!’

And Chris, 32, said: ‘Saturday mornings for me were always the excitement of a day of sport ahead and the routines that came with it. Wenzels steak slice, listening to Fighting Talk, meeting up with mates at the Pinner war memorial before kicking on to Vicarage Road.

‘To take on Saturday mornings at 5 live is a huge honour. I’m excited for us to make a show that reflects the lives and stories of everyone listening on a Saturday morning. The best time of the week. We cannot wait to get started.’

Mills will continue to host his weekday Radio 1 show from 1pm to 4pm alongside Stark, as well as the Official Chart show.

Meanwhile, Chris will also be staying put on BBC Radio 5 Live’s That Peter Crouch Podcast.

The lads will be replacing the regular spot left free by Danny Baker, who was sacked by the broadcaster after seemingly comparing Meghan and Harry’s son Archie to a monkey.

Baker shared a picture of a couple leaving a hospital, holding hands with a chimpanzee, with the caption: ‘Royal baby leaves hospital.’

He deleted the tweet and insisted he didn’t have any racist intent, saying he wasn’t aware the Duchess of Sussex is half-black, but said he understood the backlash.

However, he isn’t as understanding with the BBC, who immediately sacked him from his 5 Live Show.

He told LBC’s James O’Brien: ‘I’d hate to go to watch a film with these people who fired me, because they’d watch the opening scene, where someone’s in a locked room holding a smoking gun, there’s a body on the floor and they’d say, “Shall we go? We’ve seen who’s done it”.’

Baker added: ‘I thought it was an easy sacking for them to do.’

There are also changes to the BBC Radio 5 Live schedule on Sundays, with Pienaar’s Politics moving to 9am.

Laura Whitmore will follow at 10am, with sports coverage commencing at 11.30am.

Heidi Dawson, Controller at BBC Radio 5 live says: ‘Scott Mills is one of the best broadcasters in the business and I’m excited about the new show he and Chris Stark will be bringing to Saturday mornings.

‘Laura Whitmore has done a fantastic job across a number of shows on 5 live and it’s brilliant that we can now offer her a show every Sunday morning. Laura is a fantastic new radio star who has already made a great impact with listeners.’

Scott and Chris’s new show will start on 9 November at 9am, while the new Sunday schedule starts on 10 November.
