Scotland will not be transitioning into Phase four of its exit from lockdown restrictions as the country continues a cautious approach to reopening the economy.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the stance to the Scottish Parliament today as she revealed that limited changes would take place during the three-week period.
Priority was given to pausing the shielding program from this Saturday and ensuring a return full-time of children to schools.
The latter decision came with a pledge to offer a further £30m funding, on top of £45m announced previously, to councils to increase the recruitment of teaching staff, a commitment which will create 1,400 new teaching jobs.
The First Minster also told Parliament that non-essential offices should remain closed until September 14 at least, with remote working remaining the default position for those who can.
Live outdoor events and bingo halls have been given a indicative date of August 24 for reopening, with physical distancing and restricted numbers, with theatres and other indoor entertainment venues remained closed until September 14 at the earliest.
Gyms could reopen towards the end of August if scientific advice states it’s safe to do so on the next lockdown review in three weeks time, although it isn’t currently planned for reopening before the aforementioned date in September.
