Scoob! trailer: first look at Scooby-Doo's big-screen return

The world’s greatest detective is making a triumphant return to the big screen… No, we don’t mean Batman – we’re talking about Scooby-Doo, of course. Yep, everyone’s favourite canine mystery-solver is returning for a new animated movie, simply titled Scoob! – and, thanks to a new trailer, we’ve got a first look at his latest feature-length adventure.

Promising an “epic origin story”, Scoob! reveals how lifelong friends Scooby and Shaggy first met, and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc, before throwing the gang into an elaborate adventure involving haunted houses (of course), robot scorpions and alien spaceships that remind Scooby of a certain Swedish furniture store.

You can watch the new trailer below…

The film’s plot promises the young detectives’ “biggest, most challenging mystery ever” – a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. According to the official synopsis: “As they race to stop this global ‘dogpocalypse’, the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.”

The animated characters are backed up by a solid voice cast, including Zac Efron as Fred, Gina Rodriguez as Velma, Amanda Seyfried as Daphne and Will Forte as Shaggy. Frank Welker, who’s voiced the title character on the small screen since 2002, is once again playing Scooby-Doo.

Scoob! is the first feature-length Scooby-Doo ‘toon made specifically for the big screen, and it’s being worked on by Reel FX – the Dallas-based animation studio behind Free Birds and The Book Of Life. The film is directed by experienced animator Tony Cervone, a Scooby-Doo veteran who’s worked on several Mystery Inc projects throughout his career and was the animation director on Space Jam.

The film is intended to serve as both a reboot of the previous live-action film series and the starting point for a mooted ‘Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe’. Other Hanna-Barbera characters confirmed to appear in the film include Captain Caveman (voiced by Tracy Morgan), the Teen Angels’ Dee Dee Sykes (Kiersey Clemons), superhero duo Dynomutt and Blue Falcon (voiced by Ken Jeong and Mark Wahlberg respectively) and Wacky Races‘ Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs).

How will it all fit together? We’ll find out when Scoob! is released in UK cinemas on 15 May 2020.
