Savvy mum reveals her tips for bagging £1 Christmas toys after nabbing 75 gifts for £105

FILLING kids’ Christmas stockings can be an expensive business, but one savvy mum has bought her children 75 gifts for just £105 using a bargain shopping website.

Danielle Green, 26 from Buckinghamshire, managed to snap up the toys for her daughters Lola, two, and Lily, four using website Toysforapound.com.

The website stocks all sorts of toys including games, puzzles, dolls and inflatables with prices typically ranging from £1 to £5 per item, although delivery on any order is £2.99 – so you will need to factor that in to your costs.

Danielle says bought everything from slime and stuffed toys to board games and bedroom ornaments, and even managed to nab branded goods too.

She reckons many of the items are worth double or more on the high street, and has calculated that she saved over £100 on her purchases.

The savvy mum revealed her experiences on money-saving website LatestDeals.co.uk, where she said: “I heard about Toys for a Pound through a mutual friend after struggling each year to buy my girls toys, especially for Christmas stockings.

“Once I found the website I was very pleased, as normally stocking presents can cost over £5 per item whereas with this website almost everything is £1.”

Danielle added: “I bought slime, teddies, board games and bedroom ornaments. The website even stocks products such as Paw Patrol, LOL Suprise and Jojo Siwa.”

She said she was sure her little girls will be delighted with their gifts.

“When they open their stocking fillers they will love them,” Danielle said. “As it is so cheap, I have been able to get so much more for my money so they will have more to open.”

When it comes to advice for other parents, Danielle said: “If I could give advice to other parents, I would just say keep stocking up way before December so once that expensive month comes you will already have a load of gifts ready to wrap up which then lets you be able to spend money on other things for the month.”

Other shoppers online also praised the site, with one saying: “I use this every Christmas for stocking fillers, if you download the app it lets you know when they have new stuff online.”

Another said: “I did an order too, came on Friday. Definitely great for stockings and on such a small price scale!”

How to find bargains on toys for Christmas

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, told us his top tips for bagging cheap Christmas toys. He said:

  1. Save in the toy sales: In September and October, Tesco, Argos, Sainsbury’s, Smyths and more all launch big toy sales. These include some of the hottest toys of the year. Argos’ up to half price toy sale launches this week while Smyths Toys is giving shoppers £10 off but you have to spend £50 to get it.
  2. Compare before you buy: Just because you’ve bought a toy in a sale does not make it a good deal. First, you have to compare prices. Retailers love to whack prices up just before a sale and then offer a “discount” back to the normal price. Use tools, such as LatestDeals and Google Shopping to compare prices.
  3. Use charity shops: Consider buying toys from charity shops such as Kara Kids. It’s cheaper for you, and you help other children in need across the world. Plus, when your child is bored with the toy, you can donate it again.

Amazon has already revealed what it thinks will be the top toys for this Christmas.

Meanwhile, retailers including Argos and Asda have launched big toy sales ahead of the festive shopping period.
