It took Linda, a support worker from Rotherham, just four days in total to make the stunning set.

Her knowledge of upholstering chairs is entirely self-taught – though she did have a little help from a friend when making them.

The four-piece dining set cost her just 99p on eBay and she found the tote bags with crests of the Hogwarts houses in Poundland for £1 each.

She then painted the chairs with chalk paint she already had, and reupholstered the seat with Harry Potter-themed cloth bought for £5 per meter at a Rotherham market.

You can get chalk paint suitable for furniture for as little as £1 at The Range – a bargain way of upgrading boring furniture.

Linda made the chairs for her daughter Claire, 38, her husband and their three kids who all love Harry Potter.

The chairs now live in Claire’s house around their family dinning table where they are used daily.

This isn’t the first time Linda has transformed furniture, but it is her first time making something Harry Potter themed.

She said: “Usually what I do is pug-related furniture for local pug charities so Harry Potter was a bit of a departure from the norm.

“[My upholstery knowledge] is largely self-taught and my friend Jenny helped me as well.

“It’s not difficult but you do need to be patient – especially getting the old covering off.”

She also added that anyone thinking upcycling their own furniture should always remember to spray the upholstery to make it fireproof.

Linda’s magical creations are already proving hugely popular with savvy shoppers on social media.

Photos of the chairs shared on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group attracted over 11k likes and 2.6k comments within three hours of posting.

If your little ones are Potter-mad but you don’t know how to upholster furniture, you can always but them some Harry Potter toys in the B&M sale.

It shouldn’t have to cost lots to improved your home, as one mum proved when she transformed her bedroom for just £600.

Another mum also transformed her staircase herself – spending just £65.
