Saturday Night Live: Woody Harrelson returns and new players Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman shine

Woody Harrelson made his fourth appearance as host of Saturday Night Live tonight.

The 58-year-old Oscar nominee inserted himself into SNL’s coverage of the 2020 presidential election with his debut performance as Democratic primary candidate Joe Biden.

After an opening segment featuring Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump in a teleconference with Rudy Giuliani, Attorney General William Barr and Vice President Mike Pence, Woody arrived for his monologue looking sharp in a classic black tuxedo.

The Natural Born Killers star opened with a new revelation: that he had become a fashionista after making it onto Esquire’s Best Dressed list.

But first, he gave the audience a slideshow of some of his famously awful outfits, before using his new clout to advocate for a new article of clothing: pajamas.

‘Pajamas: their time has come,’ he said while ripping off his tux to reveal purple silk pajamas.

Woody also got a bit going where he seemed to be sticking his foot in his mouth, first by seemingly bashing immigrants before correcting himself.

The famously liberal actor joked around at the idea of him having turned into a right-wing figure, while adding that the Chinese had taken over his whole house, a joking reference to the ethnicity of his wife and children.

SNL took on the Democratic primary candidates with an absurd Impeachment Debate from CNN, hosted by Erin Burnett (Cecily Strong).

She introduced Beto O’Rourke (Alex Moffat), a ‘guy who tragically misread our enthusiasm for him.’

‘Now can I say a few words in eighth grade Spanish?’ he began, before being passed over.

Writer and new featured player Bowen Yang appeared as Andrew Yang, and Chloe Fineman made her SNL debut as Marianne William

New cast member Chloe Fineman made her debut as Marianne Williamson, who astral projected into the debate.

‘Now let’s meet the actual candidates,’ Erin said, moving on to the higher-polling candidates.

Kate McKinnon looked strikingly like Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

‘I hope you enjoyed hot girl summer, because now it’s school librarian fall!’ she said.

Fan favorite Larry David was back for a second presidential election as Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

‘I’m so excited to be back and to ruin things a second time!’ he shouted.

Former SNL star Maya Rudolph returned (to thunderous applause) as California Senator Kamala Harris, who joked that her prosecutorial instincts would fit in with a crime show on TNT.

Woody returned to the stage as Joe Biden with massive white chompers.

‘No need to worry anymore, daddy’s here, America. I see you, I hear you, I sniff you, and I hug you from behind.’

After Erin asked how Harris would feel if Biden were pulled into the current impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, Maya popped back up with a sight gag featuring sunglasses and a tropical drink.

‘Oh no, that would be terrible, not Joe Biden,’ she deadpanned.

Sanders’ closing statement devolved into a confession about his laid-back lifestyle.

‘Sometimes I sit on the porch and do literally nothing for six hours. Idon’t talk to people. I don’t look at stuff, I just sit so still people get scared and call 911 — and not for the ambulance, for the coroner!’

In his closing statement, Biden ended simply by shouting the name “Barack!”

After Cecily asked the wife (Aidy Bryant) what she planned to do now, she replied, ‘Divorce?’

Kenan Thompson was a guest on Weekend Update as Red Sox player David Ortiz. He poked fun at the designated hitter and his pitchman turns with an ad for ‘Possible Burger.’

‘Did you buy a bunch of ground beef from the back of a pickup truck? It might not be real meat — but it’s possible.’

‘Uh oh, girl coming through, don’t be naked,’ she shouted, before asking if Woody’s ‘thing’ was okay.

‘It sounded like Mickey duck. You know, not Space Jam duck, but the one with a fat a**.’

She launched into an on-point Donald Duck voice while gesturing toward her husband’s nether regions.

Next up, SNL spoofed a Sunday political talk show with Aidy hosting a panel including Woody, Cecily and Kenan.

The panelists all thought the current impeachment inquiry was a turning point in the public discourse, but Kenan, playing an African American Studies professor, wasn’t buying it.

‘Ain’t nothing gonna happen,’ he said repeatedly while chomping on popcorn.

The sketch flashed back to earlier scandals, with the actors changing their jackets to signal the passage of time, but Aidy missed one of the cues and an assistant stepped into frame to change her jacket, which set the comedian into a giggling fit that brought the sketch to a halt, though the audience was in stitches over her crack-up.
