Saturday Night Live star Laurel Griggs died from an asthma attack, her grandfather has confirmed.

The 13-year-old tragically passed away on 5 November and her relatives have now confirmed that it was an asthma attack that led to her death.

Her grandfather, David Rivlin, posted about Laurel’s death on Facebook and commented on Tuesday: ‘It’s with heavy heart that I have to share some very sad news.

‘My beautiful and talented granddaughter, Laurel Griggs, has passed away suddenly from a massive asthma attack. Mount Sinai was valiant in trying to save her but now she’s with the angels.’

The teen was best known for appearing on Broadway and US skit show Saturday Night Live.

Following her SNL appearance in October 2017, the actress shared a photo to Instagram with the caption: ‘Last night was the most amazing night of my life!

‘Thank you to the cast and crew of Saturday Night Live for making me feel so welcome! Also thank you to my spectacular agent @bonshumobloom for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity! #SNL #dreamsdocometrue #NBC #actresslife.’

Laurel made her Broadway debut on Cat On a Hot Tin Roof at the tender of six alongside Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson. She then joined the cast of Once, in which she starred as Ivanka.

Her grandfather confirmed that a funeral had taken place for the young star on 8 November.

Laurel’s death was listed in an obituary on Digital Memorial that lists her date of birth, date of death and when her committal took place.

It also includes a link for donations towards Broadway Cares, a nonprofit Aids fundraising organisation that seeks to help people across the US receive life saving medications, health care, nutritious meals, counselling and emergency financial assistance.
