Speaking to ITV’s Lorraine on Tuesday, the popular presenter admitted things didn’t quite go to plan as during a bout of illness she gained weight.

‘I was home sick, so I ate all these foods, and the modelling agent said: “You got too fat, you’ve got to go home!”’ she laughed.

It was back home though that Sara’s career really soared, first on TV before the move to radio where she hosted various shows for Radio 1.

This year, despite being heavily tipped to take over from Chris Evans on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in a role that eventually went to her friend Zoe Ball, Sara was named the Drivetime presenter on the station.

Last month the in-demand star also revealed she will front a new ITV show, which will feature live music and celebrity guests and will air on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Speaking to Lorraine, Sara admitted she was loving juggling roles on and off screen, gushing: ‘I love them both, radio my one true love, telly my bit of fun on the side. It’s so different meeting everyone and the interviews.’

Sara also released a memoir, Till the Cows Come Home, last month, which is a homage to her parents and about her life growing up on a Lancashire farm.

‘Some bits it just flowed, typing away, other days right I would say: “You’ve got to do another 100 words then you can have a cup of tea”. I was setting little goals,’ she said of the working process.

‘I was ringing up my dad, “what was the name of that car you bought in 1978?”‘

‘I want to write another one,’ she added. ‘I want to write a novel, every idea I think of, oh it’s been done. There are more stories from the farm.’
