The South Korean tech firm debuted its new Galaxy Book S during the Unpacked event at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, showing off a ‘super-slim and ultra-light’ device with a 13-inch touchscreen, Windows 10 operating system, and 23-hour battery life.

It will come in two colors – Earthy Gold and Mercury Gray – when it’s released in September, starting at $999.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Book S ‘looks like a laptop but has the essence of a smartphone.’

It’s powered by Windows 10 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx compute platform, and has LTE capability to add ‘virtually constant connection to the cloud,’ the firm says.

The system weighs just 0.96 kg and is cased in an anondized aluminium frame for protection against daily hazards, and its 13.3-inch display boasts a 10-point multi-touch for control at the tap of a finger.

Most impressive, though, may be its battery life.

Samsung promises the Galaxy Book S will last for 23 hours on a charge, so if you’re bringing it along on an overnight trip, ‘you don’t have to bring your charger.’

The computer will pair up with Microsoft’s Your phone app to sync up photos, apps, and notifications –including calls or texts – between your devices.

According to the firm, it also boasts 40 percent greater CPU performance over the Galaxy Book 2 and 80 percent graphics performance. Memory bandwidth will get a boost, too.

And, the firms insist it won’t overheat even without internal fans, thanks to the design of Snapdragon 8cx.

‘The Snapdragon 8cx chipset ushers in a new era of always on, always connected devices that empower you to work, multitask and play with ease almost anywhere,’ said Steve Mollenkopf, CEO of Qualcomm.

‘We refused to compromise peak performance for battery life and instead combined the two to create a powerful device experience that offers premium mobile computing capabilities alongside a smartphone’s mobility and connectivity.’
