Sam Thompson has confessed to wanting kids with Zara McDermott quite soon, as he doesn’t want to be a ‘really old dad’.

However, the Made In Chelsea star, 29, reckons he needs to ‘grow up a little bit first’.

Talking about how his relationship with former Love Island contestant Zara, 24, has been strengthened following her cheating scandal, the reality TV star insisted that they have been brought ‘closer together’.

He told MailOnline: ‘I’ve hit a stage where I’m doing my house up at the moment, I want to make it into a really nice adult home, I’m nearly 30 and I’m with the girl of my dreams.’

The pair announced they were dating in May 2019, however last year, their relationship was put in jeopardy when Zara admitted to being unfaithful.

They rekindled the romance soon after and Sam even made light of the situation, making a spoof video of the scene where Zara pleads for his forgiveness.

Sam said: ‘I hated that time. I didn’t enjoy it at all. But what human would? The way I handle things is by smiling and laughing about it and just trying to make it seem lighter than it already is. That’s always the way I’ve been.’

Looking ahead to the future and on the topic of having a baby, he said: ‘Not in the next year… but not in the too distant future. I don’t want to be a really old dad.

‘But I do need to grow up a little bit first.’

The couple has been renovating their home since June and have been documenting their journey via social media (@thethompsonproject on Instagram), and they are aiming to complete the renovation of their home next month.

Things seem to be going swimmingly for the pair, and they are now putting the past behind them, including Sam’s previous infidelity when he was caught cheating on his ex-girlfriend Tiffany Watson.

Referring to being a dad and having to explain his previous actions during his early years on Made In Chelsea to his kids, he said: ‘A lot of people will be like “what will you do about your kids” and I’m like: I’ll show them! This is how you shouldn’t act. I’ll be like: “That was stupid wasn’t it?”‘

Sam is also going to be an uncle soon as his sister, Louise, and her fiance, Ryan Libbey, are expecting their first child together.

Speaking of his new family member, Sam joked that he’s ‘terrified’ but ‘really wants to get it right’.

‘I want to be responsible enough that she feels like she can let me look after her child… Hopefully, I step up to the mark.’
