Sam Smith was kicked off dating app Hinge for looking too much like Sam Smith

Sam Smith has revealed they were thrown off dating app Hinge for looking too much like Sam Smith.

The singer, 28, signed up to a string of apps but was soon blocked by Hinge as its moderators thought they were using a fake profile.

“They chucked me off of it after one night because they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me,” Smith told Andy Cohen during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

Smith, who said they have found being single during the pandemic “difficult”, promised Cohen they will try Tinder instead as the host knows someone who can get him verified on the app.

“I’ve always been sad, but for the first time I actually really had mental health issues, like panic attacks, anxiety and depression”, Smith said.

Smith’s new album release has been postponed due to the pandemic.

It will be their third record in all following on from 2017’s The Thrill of It All.

Smith, who is worth an estimated £33m, is best known for songs “Money On My Mind”, “Stay with Me” and the Spectre theme tune “Writing’s On the Wall”.
