Arsenal’s talented young academy star Sam Greenwood has said his goodbyes to the club ahead of a reported move to Leeds United.

The 18-year-old is said to be on the verge of joining Marcelo Bielsa’s side, where he will continue his fine development.

Greenwood signed his first professional contract with the Gunners in September 2019 after impressing in the Under-18s’ title-winning 2018/19 season.

The attacker then progressed to the Under-23s in January, making five appearances and scoring one goal in Premier League 2.

But, the Englishman has decided it is time to move on and paid tribute to the north London club on his Instagram page.

’I want to say a big thanks @Arsenal and the supporters for the last 2 years of my career,’ he said.

‘Been an honour to play for the club while meeting some special people and making even better memories.’

In first-team news, the Gunners are set to announce the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes this week after the Lille centre-back reportedly put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The Brazilian will be Mikel Arteta’s second major recruit of the transfer window after bringing in Willian on a free transfer.

Gabriel’s arrival will mean Arsenal have nine centre-backs on their books, including Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has been sent out on loan to VfB Stuttgart for next season.

Gunners fans finally got to see William Saliba in action in the first half of their pre-season friendly win over MK Dons on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old has linked up with the squad after spending last season on loan at Saint-Etienne.
