Sainsbury’s is doing 10p per litre off fuel this weekend

SAINSBURY’S shoppers can get 10p a litre off petrol and diesel from today.

The deal is available in stores as well as online if the orders are delivered by this date too.

Once you’ve spent at least £60, you’ll be given a voucher which is valid for 14 days from the date of issue.

The discount can be used to fill up on unleaded and diesel up to a maximum of 100 litres at one of Sainsbury’s 306 forecourts.

You can find your nearest one using its store locator tool and by searching for “petrol”.

Just keep in mind the qualifying spend excludes alcohol, fuel, tobacco, gift cards, medicines, stamps, mobile phone vouchers and travel money.

Ten pence off per litre doesn’t sound like a lot but the average driver could save about £5 when re-filling a tank.

Ways to cut down on your fuel costs

HERE are some tips on how you can slash the cost of fuel

  1. Make your car more fuel-efficient. You can do this by keeping your tyres inflated, taking the roof rack off, emptying your car of clutter and turning off your air con when driving at lower speeds.
  2. Find the cheapest fuel prices. PetrolPrices.com and Confused.com allows you to search prices of UK petrol stations. All you need to do is enter in your postcode and tell it how far you want to travel (up to 20 miles).
  3. Drive more efficiently. Some ways to do this, include:
  • Accelerate gradually without over-revving
  • Always drive on the highest possible gear
  • If you can, allow your car to slow down naturally as your brake is a money burner
  • Re-starting your car is expensive, if you can keep moving

Sadly, you’ll only be able to get the 10p discount per litre on one single tank.

As usual, shoppers will also be able to collect Nectar points on every fill-up, with one point given for every litre purchased.

In a separate offer, Nectar card holders can currently also get five times more points when they buy fruit, veg, fish or meat at Sainsbury’s.

Diesel drivers are “paying more to subsidise petrol price rises”, AA claimed last month.

The cost to fill up the tank varies wildly across the UK, and motorists in the South East are currently the worst off.

Meanwhile, the cheapest towns and cities in the UK to buy fuel has been revealed with prices starting at £118.9p per litre.
