As it becomes legal for a group of six people to meet up in public, as long as they stay 2m apart, the Mayor begged them to be cautious.

He tweeted this morning: “REMINDER: Anyone who can work from home must continue to do so.

“If you do need to use public transport, wear a non-medical face covering and please try to avoid rush hour.”

He added that Londoners should avoid travelling between 5.45am and 7.30am, and 4pm and 5.30pm if possible.

Yesterday he said he was “deeply concerned” that the lockdown is being lifted too quickly.

“The Joint Biosecurity Centre has said we’re not ready to move from level 4 to 3 and the 5 tests are not met,” he said.

“I urge Londoners to act with caution – lives depend on it.”

The news comes as Boris Johnson confirmed last week that England would see lockdown measures lifted from today.

People can meet others in an outdoors space like a park or garden – but must keep their distance.

They can share a BBQ but should not share utensils and other equipment.

People can nip inside to use a friend’s loo, but should wipe down everything afterwards and make sure to wash their hands thoroughly.
