Sadio Mane names shock opponent capable of derailing Liverpool’s title hopes

Sadio Mane has warned his team-mates that Southampton could be the side to derail Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes.

The Reds are just one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City with seven games to go, and they have a realistic chance of claiming the league title for the first time in 29 years.

However, they face a difficult match against Spurs on Sunday which many are branding as the club’s most difficult fixture between now and the season’s end.

However, Mane isn’t totally in agreement and has urged his Liverpool team-mates to remain switched on even against the lesser sides, like his former club Southampton when they play on April 5.

When asked if Spurs is likely to be Liverpool’s toughest game left this season, Mane told Sky Sports: ‘It could be.

‘But people expect the only tough games to be against the top six, but sometimes that’s not the case because it’s unpredictable.

‘It could be Southampton. Sometimes you win easily with the top six, and sometimes you get a difficult game, but it’s the same with the teams at the bottom of the table.

‘So it would be a bit silly to say Tottenham would be the biggest game.’

Mane has 20 goals in all competitions this season, with 17 of those coming in the Premier League.

Liverpool host Spurs on Sunday, before clashes against Southampton and Porto in the Champions League within the next 10 days.
