Rylan Clark-Neal raises over £1 million for Children In Need with karaoke marathon

Rylan Clark-Neal has managed to raise over £1 million for the BBC’s Children In Need appeal by taking part in a 24-hour karaoke challenge.

The presenter, 31, completed his ‘KaRYoke’ marathon on Wednesday morning by dueting with M People star Heather Smalls to Simply The Best.

He was also joined by famous friends including Michelle Visage and Vanessa Feltz throughout the challenge.

Clark-Neal raised £845,239 in 24 hours but BBC Radio 2 has since confirmed on Twitter that the total has now risen to £1,027,776.

“That sore throat today is totally worth it, @Rylan!” the broadcaster wrote. “We are so incredibly proud to announce that we’ve hit ONE MILLION POUNDS (£1,027,776 to be precise!)”

Donations will be open until Friday, so the total could still grow.

The presenter visited a youth club in Essex last week ahead of the task and revealed that his trip would spur him on.

“Actually visiting the project and meeting all the kids and volunteers and speaking to them and understanding how much this money impacts their lives, when I am sort of dying at four o’clock in the morning trying to garble together a song I know what I’m doing it for now,” he said.

Clark-Neal is the latest BBC star to take on a gruelling 24 hour challenge in aid of a good cause.

Last year, Strictly Come Dancing presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly danced non-stop for a whole day, while Sara Cox previously completed an ’80s-themed danceathon.

The Children In Need appeal airs on BBC One on Friday, November 15.
