Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald had his fans in stitches on Thursday night, when he made a hilarious sledge at Coles during the 2020 AFL season-opening game.
The Richmond vs. Carlton match went ahead in front of an empty stadium following the government’s ban on non-essential gatherings of over 100 people, earlier in the week.
Watching from home, the 43-year-old couldn’t help but notice the numerous billboards that were placed around the oval at the MCG advertising for Coles.

‘Coles advertising what their shelves look like at the moment,’ he tweeted, likening the empty 90, 000 seats to the supermarket’s shelves, which have been stripped bare as Australians frantically panic buy essentials during the coronavirus pandemic.
His comment left the internet in stitches, attracting 7200 likes and being retweeted over 800 times as of Friday morning.

The former AFL player was forced into self-isolation this week along with his colleagues from Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa, after interviewing Weekend Today host Richard Wilkins, who tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.
Fitzy shared he had tested negative for COVID-19 on Instagram on Wednesday.

It was also revealed that producer Tom Ivey and presenter Sarah McGilvray had also tested negative, and later confirmed that Fitzy’s co-host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli did not have coronavirus.
The team underwent testing on Sunday night as a precaution because Richard had appeared on their show as a guest on Thursday.
Wippa called in from home this week to praise Richard for ‘doing the right thing’ by immediately self-isolating the moment he discovered he may have been exposed to coronavirus.

While it’s impossible to know with 100 per cent certainty where Richard caught the virus from, he did briefly meet singer Rita Wilson backstage at her Sydney Opera House concert on March 7.
Rita and her husband, Tom Hanks, tested positive for coronavirus last Thursday. As soon as the couple announced their diagnosis, Richard went into self-isolation.
‘I feel for Dickie, he did the right thing. Obviously, he came into contact with Tom Hanks’ wife and when the news came through that that was the case, he did the right thing and he self isolated,’ Wippa said.
‘I feel for the big guy, he was caught out. He obviously doesn’t want the knock-on or flow-on effect of where everybody stands right now.’
As of Friday morning, there are 756 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia, and seven deaths.
