Russo Brothers tease what could ‘attract’ them back to Marvel and the Fantastic Four might help

The Russo Brothers brought the Avengers series to a close with Endgame and aren’t currently signed up for any future Marvel movies – that we know of at least.

But it might not be over for the acclaimed directors, who have revealed just which Marvel superheroes could entice them back to the cinematic universe.

It might come as a surprise that they’re very excited about the return of the divisive Fantastic Four gang.

Teasing their future, Joe Russo told Syfy: ‘I grew on up [John] Byrne’s X-Men run. Ben Grimm was a favourite character growing up, the Thing. And Fantastic Four is now in the Marvel fold. There’s a lot.

‘Silver Surfer is an amazing character. Going really big in cosmic would be a lot of fun. So there’s a lot of things that could attract us.’

If they do decided to return to the MCU, the Russos – Joe and Anthony – are in it for the long-haul explaining that they’d be keen to sign a multi-movie deal to fulfill their creativity.

Joe said: ‘I think after you go on the journey that we went on – because there is a comprehensive narrative, an overarching story from Winter Soldier all the way to the end of Endgame that involves Tony and Cap, through Civil War, through Infinity War – I think that scale of ambition in storytelling is a bug that’s bit us.

‘And we’re compelled to tell more stories on that scale, with that sort of years-long ambition to them.’

If the Russos are in, then so are we.

Marvel studio boss Kevin Feige recently addressed the Fantastic Four’s return to the MCU by teasing plans for standalone movies with the characters.

Kevin told Fandango this summer: ‘Yeah, maybe [Fox characters will appear in non-standalone movies first]. You know, oftentimes it just comes down to a specific character in a specific story and a specific way to introduce them.

‘It’s still early days, but it’s been a fun exercise, and it’s one, by the way, that we’ve been doing for years.’
