Royal British Legion launches Legion Games to ‘aid and support the Armed Forces community’

The Royal British Legion has announced the launch of Legion Games, a new initiative to aid and support the Armed Forces community. By using Twitch and providing “regular gaming content”, Legion Games says it will partner with content creators in the UK with Armed Forces veterans for online tournaments across a variety of games.

“Viewers will be able to interact with those on screen and donate to the Legion Games cause directly on screen, helping power up veterans’ recovery,” a press release said.

The first stream, which is slated to take place at 5pm UK time on Friday, November 8th will set Two Angry Gamers against Armed Forces veterans Daniel and Ryan.

“By launching the Legion Games, we hope to build on the existing community of Armed Forces personnel who enjoy gaming, whilst connecting them with an audience who otherwise may not know much about the lives of those who serve,” said Chanel Blake, Head of innovation and planning at The Royal British Legion. “Much like challenge events and fun runs, gaming is another fun and social sport that brings people together, so the Legion Games is about embracing that culture and building a platform to raise money to help aid the fantastic work The Royal British Legion does to power up veterans’ recovery.

“We can’t wait for the first stream on Friday 8 November and we’re excited for what the future holds.”

The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. The organisation says people need help for many different reasons; they may be facing employment issues or need help related to housing, homelessness or living independently. They may face mental and physical health challenges, need care in later life, or need help building local community connections. For more, head to https://www.legiongames.gg/.
