Roy Keane slammed Arsenal’s ‘way over the top celebrations’ following Alexandre Lacazette’s goal against Newcastle on Sunday.
The Gunners recorded the most emphatic victory of Mikel Arteta’s reign so far following a blistering second half display.
Lacazette again started on the bench, with Arteta preferring teenager Eddie Nketiah who was recalled from his loan spell at Leeds last month.
The France international had gone nine games without a goal but was mobbed by his teammates after he eventually ended his drought with a slightly fortuitious injury time goal which capped a 4-0 win.
Reacting to the celebrations, Keane told Sky Sports: ‘It was way over the top.
‘When I was watching it I thought they were 10 points clear in the league the way they were celebrating
‘No, forget Arsenal. Way over the top celebration for beating Newcastle 4-0. Ridiculous.’
Arteta, by contrast, was understandably delighted for the former Lyon captain who had endured one of the most difficult periods of his career.
He said: I am so pleased. Not just for the goal but for the reaction of all his teammates and the staff, because it showed how much they love him.
‘And the reason why is because this guy works his balls off every day.’
