Roy Keane says Liverpool showed against Man Utd why they can win Premier League title

Liverpool showed against Manchester United that they have fighting spirit they need to become Premier League champions, claims Roy Keane.

Liverpool’s winning run in the league ended at 17 consecutive matches at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United came within five minutes of a shock win but for substitute Adam Lallana to equalise late on for the league leaders.

Liverpool were below par and Keane believes it is a great sign they still managed to come away with a point from the match.

But the Irishman also praised Manchester United for their performance on the day.

“I think both managers will be satisfied with the draw,” Keane said on Sky Sports.

“Pressure was building from Liverpool, obviously the Liverpool lads were speaking quite critically of themselves.

“But you have to give United a little bit of credit today.

“Obviously they got the first goal, they had to sit in, and there was just maybe one or two sloppy mistakes towards the end, United lacked a bit of composure, and when you’re 1-0 up there’s always a danger the opposition will score.

“Liverpool again, if they’re talking about winning league titles etc, you’re going to have to grind out results when you’re playing badly and that’s what they’ve done today.

“Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] will be pleased as well, they showed a good attitude, some good quality, but you always felt they needed that second goal.”

The point for Liverpool means they are six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table after nine matches.

The gap stood at eight points before the weekend’s action but City returned to winning ways when they won 2-0 at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Liverpool are next in league action on Sunday when they host struggling Tottenham, with City facing Aston Villa at the Etihad 24 hours earlier.
