Mick Jagger returned to the stage alongside his Rolling Stones pals this weekend, for his first performance following his heart surgery.

The 75-year-old went under the knife to replace a damaged heart valve, just a few weeks ago, meaning the band had to postpone a string of tour dates.

And, after the Satisfaction singer made a triumphant return, bandmate Ronnie Wood admitted his illness was a ‘swerve’ for them.

Speaking about the news, the 72-year-old said: ‘We knew it was something serious.

‘I think he needed a bit of support, which we gave him. We thank our lucky stars.

‘This was certainly a swerve, a left-hand ball, for us,’ he added to The Mirror. ‘We weren’t ready for this.’

Thankfully, Mick made a swift recovery, and has been able to join the Stones as they take on the US leg of their tour.

They had previously been forced to reschedule a string of concerts, telling fans: ‘We apologise for any inconvenience this causes those who have tickets to shows but wish to reassure fans to hold onto these existing tickets, as they will be valid for rescheduled dates, which will be announced shortly.

‘Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment.

‘The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.’

And, shortly after his hospital stint, the dad-of-eight revealed he was feeling ‘pretty good’.

In his first interview following the operation, he insisted: ‘Been rehearsing a lot lately in the last few weeks … This morning [I did] a bit of gym. Nothing crazy.

‘Then I go into rehearsal with the rest of the band.’

We are not worthy of Mick Jagger.
