Romelu Lukaku phone call convinces Man Utd ace Ashley Young to seal Inter Milan transfer

Manchester United’s former striker, Romelu Lukaku, called Ashley Young to convince him to join Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy. The versatile right-back appears set to leave Old Trafford, after reportedly refusing to sign a contract extension.

Young has fallen down the pecking order at United, despite being the official club captain.

Former Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has emerged as the No 1 right-back at the club, after his £50million move in the summer.

At left-back, where Young has played on occasion, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears keen to play youngster Brandon Williams.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at United in the summer, and is now free to talk to foreign clubs about a pre-contract deal.

Inter Milan’s CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that talks are ongoing with United over a deal for Young.

He expects the full-back to join Inter, and on Thursday he suggested the deal could even be completed “tonight”.

“Politano and Young? At the moment, there are many rumours, we are all active,” Marotta told Calciomercato.

“In general, you know very well that what hasn’t already been done can be done tonight.”

Young wants to leave Old Trafford in search of first-team football.

Solskjaer has opened up on the future of the former Aston Villa star, after United’s embarrassing defeat to Manchester City earlier this week.

“Tonight’s not the night to talk about players leaving because we need the players that we have in the squad,” he said.

“We’ve got a few months left of this season, we can’t weaken ourselves we need to strengthen ourselves if any movement is going to happen.”

Asked if Young would move in the summer, Solskjaer said: “I don’t know what you’re talking about, you’ve got to ask Ash.

“For me it’s about focusing on the next game and tonight.”

Young has made 12 Premier League appearances for United this season.

He’s been in the starting XI in 10 of the club’s 21 league fixtures, but was left out of the matchday squad for the Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City on Tuesday.
